When someone pays me a compliment I can’t deny that it feels good! In that moment I feel a smile spread across my face and my mood is lifted. To be on the receiving end is a great feeling but did you know that the giver is actually the one reaping most of the benefits.
Writing a positive message expressing kind words to someone you know can have a major impact on your happiness. Text a friend to thank them or email a colleague to praise their work. Think about one thing that makes that person tick or something good that people too often take for granted about them and compliment them on it. For example, my mum is doing her 2nd university degree at the moment, and I just texted her a little message to say how proud and inspired I am by her. Little compliments often mean much more to the person than you might think.
Research shows that people who express random acts of kindness on a regular basis tend to experience more long-term happiness. Make this part of your life and experience the rise in creativity, intelligence and energy that comes from a happier mind set.
