I was reading an article in the New York post the other day. The headline boldly stated “Flooding of Coast, Caused by Global Warming, Has Already Begun”. Melting ice sheets and rising sea levels are a direct result of the global warming created by human emissions and now what scientists have been warning us about for years, is well and truly upon us.
I came across an interesting initiative which reconditions and refits old military planes with new mechanics. Using these planes, they drop “tree bombs” instead of land mines. Tree bombs are a biodegradable container which holds seeds inside and when dropped they impact the ground at 200mph burying themselves as if hand planted. 3,000 of these tree bombs can be planted per minute. Now that’s one way to battle global warming!
Thailand has already begun a five-year pilot project that utilized the aerial reforestation method to boost forest regeneration in the Phitsanulok province, with the aim of transforming it into a healthy, green forest by 2017.
These old planes were once used to devastate humanity. Now they are being turned into weapons of love by helping restore mother nature in an effort to put right all of the wrong we have done to our fragile planet. These are the kind of creatively conscious ways in which we can counteract climate change and I hope more of these initiatives will come to fruition.
